Raja Ampat Boat Builder for Custom New-Build Projects

New-build liveaboards, dive boats, speedboats, catamarans and workboats specified for Raja Ampat and West Papua conditions — from concept and GA drawings to sea trial and certification. Quotations in USD.

New-build only. Repair, refit, haul-out and berthing are run by separate desks.

Why this site exists

The brief is written here, not somewhere else

The gap we publish into

Boats that work Raja Ampat are almost always designed for other waters. There is today no builder-intent page that answers Raja Ampat conditions directly — answers come from yards outside the geography and from dive media. This site publishes the brief itself: Dampier Strait currents, the Sorong supply chain, and dive decks that cycle twice a day.

What we do not do

No repair, refit, haul-out or slipway work — that is repair and refit in the same waters, a separate desk. No marina, mooring or berthing services. No brokerage and no used-boat sales. One desk, one job: new-build projects from brief to launch.

Where the boats are built

We do not own a shipyard. Each project is placed at an Indonesian partner yard matched to the hull material and vessel type, supervised through construction, then delivered to Sorong or directly into Raja Ampat. This site is a new publication: no project gallery is shown until completed builds can be documented honestly.

Operating conditions brief

Why a Raja Ampat boat is not a Bali boat

Four constraints shape every specification we write. A hull that ignores them works everywhere except here.

C–01

Dampier Strait current and tide

Strong, reversing currents at the busiest dive sites set engine sizing, manoeuvring power and boarding-ladder design.

C–02

Distance and the Sorong supply chain

Spare parts are not a same-day errand. Engine brands and systems are chosen for what can actually be sourced and serviced through Sorong and Waisai.

C–03

The twice-daily dive deck cycle

Gear staging, cylinder racks, camera rinse and recovery flow are designed for two full dive rotations a day, every day of the season.

C–04

Water, fuel and waste on long routes

Tankage is worked backwards from days between resupply on routes that run far from any dock — with reserve margins, not optimism.

Build Brief Program

Five stages from brief to launch

Concept & GA drawing

Operating profile, capacity and route become a general arrangement drawing you can question.

Indicative: weeks, not days

Specification & yard selection

Technical spec written, then matched to an Indonesian partner yard — part of the wider network of shipyards across Indonesia — experienced in the chosen material.

Indicative: 1–2 months

Contract & payment milestones

Staged payments tied to inspection points: contract, hull, launch, handover. We do not hold client funds.

Set per project

Construction supervision

Hold points at each stage, with progress reporting until the vessel is ready for trials.

Indicative: several months to 18+ for liveaboards

Sea trial & certification

Witnessed trials against the contract, punch-list closure, then registration and survey steps verified with the relevant Indonesian authorities.

Indicative: weeks

What actually moves the number

Not a price list. These six levers decide what a Raja Ampat new-build costs — and every one of them is a decision, not a fate.

Length & displacement

The first multiplier: structure, engines and systems all scale with the hull.

Hull material

Wood, aluminium or fiberglass — each moves both build cost and lifetime upkeep.

Cabins & bathrooms

Every wet unit adds plumbing, tankage and finishing time.

Systems package

Genset, air conditioning, watermaker, dive compressors — the invisible half of the budget.

Interior finish level

Workboat plain to guest-ready joinery: the same hull, very different labour hours.

Yard location & logistics

Where the boat is built sets delivery distance, crew travel and supervision cadence.

Straight answers

Frequently asked, answered without hedging

What types of new-build boats does Raja Ampat Boat Builder focus on?

We focus on new-build liveaboards, dive day boats, speedboats, tenders, homestay boats, support workboats and catamarans designed specifically for Raja Ampat and West Papua operating conditions. Every project is a new vessel built to an owner's operating profile rather than a stock model.

Does Raja Ampat Boat Builder handle repair or refit work?

No. This is a custom new-build brand only. Repair, refit, haul-out and slipway services are handled by separate specialist businesses and are not described or quoted here.

What factors affect the cost of a new-build boat for Raja Ampat in USD?

Cost is driven by length, hull material, machinery and generator package, interior finish level, safety and dive systems, and regulatory requirements. Owner options such as air conditioning, solar arrays and tender packages move the figure further. Indicative USD ranges are published on the pricing page and project-specific quotations are issued after the specification is agreed.

How far in advance of a Raja Ampat season should a new-build project start?

Plan on well over a year, and closer to two years for a liveaboard. Design and approvals typically absorb three to six months before construction begins, and a 30 m liveaboard then needs roughly 18 to 24 months of building and outfitting before sea trials.

Are quotations provided in USD?

Yes. Budget ranges and example figures on this site are expressed in USD so owners can compare projects consistently. Contract currency and payment milestones are agreed in writing for each build.
